MAKER #1 - BEN BROWN
Ben Brown, in his home studio, Mosman, NSW
I've known Ben for over 20 years. We first connected while I was working at the Manly Board Store back in the early 2000's. We then connected while I was at Insight, and more recently on some of our own projects, namely Vin's YANDINA SPEEDWAY where Ben created 13 unique hand-drawn graphics for one board.
Ben is always good for a yarn, he's a great story teller, he makes time to talk shared interests, and that's why we chose him as the first guest in our upcoming 'Makers' Podcast Series releasing later this month.
Ben has over three decades of experience as an artist and illustrator. From his early twenties as a screen printer to his artistic career, his style has grown up alongside his passion for music. Being formerly involved in bands around Sydney (most notably the Hellmen), he has a great appreciation for true and passionate artists who are still producing this irreverent style.
Drawing inspiration from his culturally rock-rich environment, his art imbibes the especially abundant surf, skate and punk rock scene through these times. Ben has produced art for Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Metallica, The Pixies to The Big Day Out, Hard Ons, Frenzal Rhomb, and who could go past, Massapeal.
